Lalgudi GJR Krishnan started his formal study of music at a tender age with his grandfather, Sh Lalgudi Gopala Iyer. Later he and his sister learnt under their father Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman.
In 1973, Krishnan made his stage debut. True to his father's legacy, the audience can decipher the sahithya from the performance. His playing style is like that of his father's gayaki style, closest to vocal rendition.
He has blended tradition and innovation admirably as they lay bare the succulent sweetness to mesmerize listeners time and again with their violin duets.
He has travelled widely on concert tours both in India and abroad and has performed all over the world. He has also gives duet performances with his sister Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi. GJR received the Sangeet Natak Akademi award in 2016.
