Margi Madhu is a renowned Koodiyattam artist from Kerala, who has contributed significantly to the preservation and promotion of this ancient art form. He grew up in a family of Koodiyattam artists and was introduced to the art at a young age. He received his initial training from his father, Madhava Chakyar, a well known Koodiyattam artist.
Margi Madhu began his professional career in 1981. He has performed extensively in India and abroad. He has received numerous awards like the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (2011), Kalaratnam Award, Guru Chengannur Award and Natyacharya Award among others. Margi Madhu has trained many students in Koodiyattam and has established the Margi Theatre and Research Centre in Thiruvananthapuram to promote Koodiyattam. His notable performances include Ascharyachoodamani, Swapnavasavadatta and Bhasa's Madhyama Vyayoga.
He has also collaborated with other artists and art forms, including the contemporary dance company Attakkalari and Western classical music ensemble Broukar.
