DR. ALANKAR SINGH

Dr Singh received his training in music at the tender age of 4, for a period of eleven years from Gurmat Sangeet Acharya Late Prof. Tara Singh, a renowned musicologist and composer, who belonged to the Harguna Taksal & Gwalior Gharana. After learning from Dr. (Mrs.) Madhurima Kishore of Patiala, he received training from Ambala based Guru Pt. Ganesh Prasad Sharma (disciple of Pt. Bhola Nath Bhatt of Allahabad and Ustad Wajid Hussain Khan Saheb of Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana) for about 25 years.

He is the first and only recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademi’s prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar (2010) for Gurbani, Dr. Alankar Singh is presently working as Head, Department of Music & is Incharge Gurmat Sangeet Chair of Punjabi University, Patiala, Punjab.
